1. System requirements 
-------------------
    Operation System: Windows NT Server 4.0 SP3 or later
                      Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition.
                      
    At least 16 MB RAM
    External Smart Card Reader Model: RSR3
    Acer Smart Card


2. Introducing Acer SmartPack 1.01
----------------------------------
    Acer SmartPack is a program that makes managing and using 
Acer WT 300 Windows-based terminal much simpler.

    The program can read/write connection information to/from the Acer Smart Card.
Makes your organization as a Acer Smart Card issuer for terminal users. 

    WBT(Windows-based Terminal)-like graphical interface is intuitive to WBT 
users, and makes administrators to manage users eaisly. Administrators can 
authorize designate connections to an user to prevent servers from illegal 
access. Also the user can benefit from this. With a Acer Smart Card issued by this
program, users can just launch a connection without type in any data, make 
everday use of WBT fast and efficient.


3. Program Features
-------------------
The user interface of Acer SmartPack is similar to the WBT's 
graphical interface, making it easy to learn and easy to use. The following 
features are designed to make use of WBT easier and efficient.

 - Connection database keeps predefined connection settings. Administrators
   select connections from this database and authorize them to users.
   
 - Administrators authorize designate connections to users by the management 
   policy to enhance the security.

 - Editing function lets administrators adjust connection setting based on 
   demand of users.

 - Unblocking function can activate a Acer Smart Card that fails to pass PIN verification
   for 3 times.

 - Company setting to secure your terminals against illegal access    

4. Install/Uninstall
--------------------
    NOTE: Please attach the External Smart Card Reader to COM1. The External Smart Card Reader
          fails to work if attached to other COM port.

    To install Acer SmartPack
        a. Before installing the Acer SmartPack, you must first download the 
           Microsoft Smart Card Base Components from the Microsoft web site.  
                http://www.microsoft.com/security/tech/smartcards/components.asp
           Please download the driver with your language version.
        b. Install the Microsoft Smart Card Base Components
        c. Run the setup program SETUP.EXE to install Acer SmartPack.
           The installation wizard will guide you through the install process.

    To uninstall Acer SmartPack
        a.  Click on "Start"
        b.  Select "Programs"
        c.  Select "Acer SmartPack"
        d.  Click "Uninstall Acer SmartPack 1.01" to uninstall this program


5. Running the program
----------------------

a.  Click on "Start"
b.  Select "Programs"
c.  Select "Acer SmartPack 1.01"
d.  Click "Acer SmartPack 1.01" to launch the program

5.1 Card Functions
-----------------
a. Initialize Acer Smart Card
    Before dispatch a Acer Smart Card to the user, first step is to initialize 
    the Acer Smart Card. Choose this function to initialize the Acer Smart Card.

b. Read Setting from Acer Smart Card
    Read all the connection settings from the Acer Smart Card.

c. Save Setting to Acer Smart Card    
    Save the authorized connection settings to the Acer Smart Card.

d. Unblock
    If the Acer Smart Card is blocked because the user key in wrong PIN code for 3 times,
    Use this function to unblock it.
    
e. Reset PIN code
    If the user forgets the PIN code, use this function to reset the code.    

5.2 Connection functions
------------------------
a. Define New Connection
    Create a connection and add it to the conneciton database.
    The procedures to fill connections please refer to the Acer WT 300 user's guide.

b. Set Startup Connection
    Set a connection as AutoStart makes the connection be launched immediately
    after the WBT is activated. Please refer to the WBT user's guide for more details.

c. Edit Connection
    Choose this to edit the connection setting.

d. Delete Connection
    Delete choosed connection from database or authorized list.

e. Authorize a Connection
    Authorize a connection to an user.
    
6.  How do I...
---------------
a. Add a connection to database
    1) Launch the Acer SmartPack.
    2) Choose Connection|Define New Connection (Ctrl-D)
    3) Set the connection properties
    4) Press OK to add the connection to database

b. Dispatch a new Acer Smart Card to an user
    1) Launch the Acer SmartPack.
    2) Insert the Acer Smart Card to the External Smart Card Reader.
    3) Initialize the Acer Smart Card.
    4) Set the Acer Smart Card holder name and access privilege.
    5) Select the connection you want to authorize to the user.
    6) Choose Connection|Authorize a connection.
    7) Set the connection properties.
    8) Press OK to add the connection to authorized connection list.
    9) Repeat step 5-8 to authorize more connections if necessary.
   10) Choose Card|Save Setting to Acer Smart Card to save all the settings to 
       the Acer Smart Card.
   11) You can dispatch the Acer Smart Card to the user now.

c. Modify the content of the Acer Smart Card
    1) Launch the Acer SmartPack.
    2) Insert the Acer Smart Card to the External Smart Card Reader.
    3) Choose Card|Read Setting from Acer Smart Card to read card content.
    4) Edit the information you want to edit (Card holder name, access privilege
       etc)
    5) Edit the connection properties as you wish.
    6) Choose Card|Save Setting to Acer Smart Card to save all the settings to the card.

d. Use this Acer Smart Card on Acer WT 300 Windows-based terminal
    1) Insert the Acer Smart Card to the Acer WT 300 internal Smart Card slot.
    2) Power on the terminal
    3) Enter the PIN code and press Submit
    4) After the PIN code has been verified, you can access the authorized 
       connections.

e. Change the PIN code on Acer WT 300 Windows-based terminal
    1) Insert the Acer Smart Card to the Acer WT 300 internal Smart Card slot.
    2) Power on the terminal
    3) Choose the Change PIN code
    4) Enter your old PIN code, new PIN code.
    5) Click Submit to change it.

f. Reset the PIN code
    1) Launch the Acer SmartPack.
    2) Insert the Acer Smart Card to the External Smart Card Reader.
    3) Choose Card|Reset PIN code to reset it.

7. Notice
---------
    a. Once the Acer Smart Card has been blocked because of PIN code verification failure, 
       please return the Acer Smart Card to the administrator to unblock it.
    b. You will be prompted to enter your company/organization name when first 
       time lanch the Acer SmartPack. Please ensure the name is 
       identical as the name you set on the terminals. Otherwise the terminal 
       rejects all the cards with the wrong name.
    c. Once the user forgets the PIN code, please return the Acer Smart Card to the 
       administrator to reset the code.
