Operating System Support	Windows 2000

Other Requirements None.

What is a driver?
A driver (or a device driver) is a small, system level program that allows a specific piece of hardware (i.e. your HP Surestore DAT tape drive) or software to interface to a specific operating system (i.e. Windows NT).

This Particular Driver
The driver supplied with Windows 2000 is 4mmDAT.SYS and it supports all HP's DDS product range.

There is currently no functionality difference between the 4mmDAT.sys driver and this driver ( HP's HPDAT.sys).

These drivers are for all HP SureStore DAT drives and support the Windows 2000 platform only.

Installing Windows 2000 drivers

1 Log on to Windows 2000 as Administrator, supplying the necessary password.

2 Click on the 'Start' button and then 'Programs', 'Administrative tools' and 'Computer Management'.

3 In the left hand pane, select 'System Tools' then 'Device Manager'. In the right hand pane, double click on the 'Tape Drives' icon to display the attached tape drives. If the tape hardware has changed, it may sometimes be necessary to scan for these changes by right clicking the 'Tape Devices' icon, and selecting the 'Scan...' menu item.

4 To replace the current driver this one, right click on the device, select the 'Properties' menu item and then the 'Drivers' tab.

5 To invoke the 'Driver Wizard', click on the 'Update Drivers' button and follow the instructions given.

6 You may be prompted to enter the pathname for the driver, in which case enter the directory where the file is stored.

Your tape drive should now be functioning with the new driver. You will not ordinarily be asked to reboot your computer.
