                  System Firmware Update Package Usage Instructions                  
================================================================================
This package can be updated using one of the following methods:
 - The embedded EFI shell
 - Intel(R) Deployment Assistant
 - windows or Linux operating system using Intel(R) One-boot Flash Update (OFU)   
 - Windows* Preboot Execution Environment (WinPE)

EFI Shell

User can update system firmware from Intel server EFI shell with below
steps
- Download Intel server system firmware update package from support.intel.com
- Unzip package and copy all files to a folder in a USB disk key 
- Insert USB disk key to server USB port
- Reboot server to EFI shell
- Run command " map -r " at EFI shell to mount USB disk key
- Run command " fs0:" to change folder to USB disk key, USB key may also mount to
  fs1:. The number of "fs" is dependent on the result of command "map -r"
- Change folder to the folder that store the firmware package
- Run command " startup.nsh " to start firmware update process

in this firmware package for the details of EFI commands 

Intel(R) Deployment Assistant (IDA)

User can use IDA CD to update system firmware with below steps
- Boot server with IDA CD
- Select " Get System Updates " Button at IDA home page
- IDA has three options to get system firmware update package

  . From support.intel.com
    IDA can automatically download system firmware update package from Intel
    supporting web site. 
    Server should have valid Internect conncetion. User can follow the indication
    on IDA GUI to enter local server IP setting and Internect proxy configuration;
    Select "Next" button to start firmware download and update process
    
  . From my network
    IDA can get system firmware update package from a Windows* share folder on LAN.
    User need to download firmware update package from support.intel.com web site
    and copy to a Windows* share folder first;
    Follow the indication on IDA GUI to enter local server IP setting / 
    Windows* file server name / Windows* account name and its password;
    Find the firmware update package in the Windows* share folder from 
    a IDA pop-up window;
    Select "Next" button to start firmware update process
          
  . From USB Disk on key or Hard Disk
    IDA can get system firmware update package from USB storage also.
    User need to download firmware update package from support.intel.com web site
    and copy it to a USB key and insert into server USB port;
    Select option "From USB disk on key or hard disk" and select "Browse" button;
    Select firmware update package ZIP file in a IDA pop-up window;
    Select "Next" to start firmware updating
    
 Note: system firmware update package is .ZIP file format, it doesn't need to
       unzip, directly copy the .ZIP to Windows* share folder or USB disk


Intel(R) One Boot Flash Update Utility

The Intel(R)One-Boot Flash Update Utility (Intel OFU) is used to update the BIOS 
and firmware on the Intel server boards while the operating system is running. 
The utility may be launched from a command prompt in either the Windows*
or Linux* Operating Systems.
User can get Intel OFU from Server system IDA CD or from support.intel.com web site
Please refer Intel OFU user guide about the details of intatllation and usage of OFU

User can use OFU to update system firmware with below steps
- Install OFU on Windows* or Linux* system
- Download Intel server system firmware update package from support.intel.com 
- Unzip package and copy all files to a folder in Windows* or Linux* system
- Run below command in Windows* connamd line window or Linux* terminal windows 
  <OFU install folder name>:\ flashupdt -u  <package folder name>\flashupdt.cfg
  to start firmware update process
                  

Windows* Preboot Execution Environment (WinPE)

This Intel server system firmware package can be inserted to Windows* PE customized
image and create a bootable Windows* PE CD. 
User can update system firmware from WinPE CD with below steps
- Boot server with customized WinPE CD
- Run script "WinPE_Update.bat" in this firmware package in customzied WinPE CD 
  to start firmware update process

BIOS R27 fixed below issues
-   L1 and L2 Cache size is wrong on E7420 Processors.
-   BIOS setup is slow with four 7400 series Processors.
-   USB mouse and keyboard detected if USB is disabled
-   WinPE boot issue from USB flash disk.	
-   System displays ES1000 BIOS message during pOST and 
-   Event log in windows Displays PPM disabled Error Event
-   CPU signature in MP configuration Table is incorrect for 7400 serises processors
-   Extended Table Checksum in MP Configuration Table Header is incorrect
-   State Hint is Disabled as per Wolfdale BWGo.92 on 7400 seires processors.
-   StopGrant Ack Count is incorrectly Programming for 7400 seires processors.
-   PECI feature was enabled incorrect on 7400 series Processor.

BIOS R25 fixed below issues 
- Sony AD-7560A DVD drive did not consistently appear in the BIOS setup 
- Unable to update SAS Riser to HW RAID using Dual Mode Firmware Update 
- L3 cache not displayed in BIOS setup and SMBIOS.
- Fatal error injected on slot1-6 did not generate Windows 2008 crash"
- Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 7400 series CPUID reporting only lower 16 bits in BIOS Setup 
- Thermal margin sensors not working with Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 7400 serious setup. 
- Fix for SelfTest Tool failures PCI-e to PCI-X Bridge, Cache Line Size
- POST screen hand incorrectly displayed line while BMC jumper is in force update mode.
- L3 cache size BIOS setup shown as "0" for some Intel(R) Xeon(R) 7400 series Processors.
- Added Setup option to enable/disable USB device promoting to top of Boot Order.
- Modify behavior of Global Fault LED for correctable errors

BIOS R23 fixed below issues 
- Removed the Dummy DSDT Table support for OA2.0.
- Fixed blue screen death issue when install Windows* server 2008 EM64T
- Corrected BOIS ACPI issue
- Added feature to prevent Legacy OS redirection in EVGA mode
- Resolved the problem of WHQL Sleep test(Hibernate) failure
- Resolved the problem of WHQL TCG TPM Integration test failure
- Corrected the issue of PCIE slot 7 slowdown from X4 to X1
- Resolve the issue of performace of Quad Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 7300 
  Series drops sharply
- Fixed the copyright problem on BIOS POST screen
- Corrected the issue that date is shown incorrectly after 2008.1.1
- Fixed the voltage issue in SMBIOS Type 4
- Fixed the issue that Intel(R) Deployment Assistant CD may fail to boot up
- corrected the issue of BIOS admin password can't be set on 501 board
