FW and OpROM Package for Native SAS mode and Intel(R) Embedded Server RAID Technology II

May 24, 2007 package versions:
	FW Version = 01.20.00.00
	BIOS (non-RAID) Version = 06.14.00
BIOS (SW RAID) Version = 01.01021804I

Supported RAID modes: 0, 1, 10, and 5 (with use of Intel(r) RAID Activation Key AXXRAKSW5)

Supported Intel(R) RAID Controllers: SROMBSAS18E (native mode only - not HW RAID mode)
Supported Modules: Intel(R) S5000PAL with SAS I/O Module (native mode only)
Supported Intel(R) Server Boards and Systems: SR1500ALSAS, SR2500LX (native mode only)
Supported Silver & Prodcution Intel(R) Server Boards and Systems: S5000PSLSAS, S5000VSASAS, S5000VCLSAS and equivalent SAS models using the S5000X chipset. SR1550AL and S5000PSLROMB are supported for native mode only.
Silver boards must have at least B1 stepping of the SAS controller
Supported LSI(R) RAID Adapters : See bottom of these instructions

Note: Intel(R) Integrated Server RAID has a separate update package.

WARNING: In SAS SW RAID mode, no more than 8 drives are supported (even as spare) and only ONE expander may be used. Use of additional expanders or more than 8 drives at any time while in SW RAID mode may cause critical data failures and is specifically NOT supported.

Upgrade Installation Instructions:
------------------------------------
1.Unzip all of the files from the zip package onto EFI shell readable media (floppy, USB key, or CD), maintaining the directory structure.

Note: This update will flash ALL devices in the system of the same type as the onboard - care should be taken to remove any 'like' devices if this is not the desired result. POST time will be improved if no other drives are attached to the server.

2. Boot to the EFI shell, change drive and directory location to where you unzipped the package (usb key will likely be named fs0, so <fs0:><cr> should get to the root of that drive) and type in the name of the batch file that matches your board model:
almp_upd.nsh SR1550ALSAS,SR2500LX with LSI SAS1068 controller
albp_upd.nsh SR1500ALSAS with LSI SAS1064e controller
aliomupd.nsh S5000PAL based system with SAS I/O Module and LSI SAS1064e controller
(note: should be done with active backplane removed from system, if applicable)
basasupd.nsh NSC2U with LSI SAS1068 controller
casasupd.nsh S5000VCLSAS with LSI SAS1064e controller
hmsasupd.nsh TIGW1U with LSI SAS1068 controller
lpsasupd.nsh S5000PSLROMB, SROMBSAS18E with LSI SAS1068 controller
sasasupd.nsh S5000VSASAS with LSI SAS1064e controller
slsasupd.nsh S5000PSLSAS and S5000XVNSAS with LSI SAS1064e controller

3. Reboot and confirm the OpROM/FW versions (depending on mode) and drives listed.

Known installation issues:
1) On systems containing older firmware, the update may fail with an error message (including but not limited to: "Device ID's don't match"). Please verify you ran the correct script file for the device you are using, and if certain, answer 'yes' to the override question to force this image onto the board, and enter the listed FW filename if necessary. However, depending on the older FW in question, the option to force upgrade may not be available - this will require erase of the flash to upgrade (see #2).

2) If this fix doesn't work, a more complete Erase/Reflash method is required. This should be considered a workaround only and only for test environments. If this situation occurs in a production/customer environment, please contact your Intel representative for resolution.
Workaround instructions:
Note: You may be prompted to enter the 'valid fw image' to update with (at step 1
or step 2 - or both). This simply verifies a valid fw is available to be
updated prior to a clear/reprogram, and is not an error. The full path and
filename is required here - it can be found by user navigation/translation,
or if preferred it can be viewed for any given platform by editing/viewing
the batch file originally used for the given platform.
	1. From the DOS prompt type:
		sasflash -0 -e 6
	2. Repeat step 2 in the standard install instructions above (running the script).
	3. Reboot and check versions and drives.
