1.0 Introduction

This file contains last-minute updates that are not found in the User's
Guide or in any addendum accompanying the display adapter. Please read
this file before proceeding with the installation.

GENERAL INFO for WIN95 NEW INSTALLATIONS:

- In order to match your mach64 products to your monitor
and to your system configuration, you must install the "ATI DESKTOP"
page by following the instructions outlined in section 3.0 below.
The "Adjustment" page will allow you to customize your monitor timing such
as refresh rate and screen centering.

- WIN95 Setting Page also allows you to select the "monitor type".
You can pick your monitor manufacturer and model number. The ATI
Display Driver will read the timing information from the INF file and
setup the appropriate timings..

2.0 Adapter Installation

The adapter installation requires a step by step methodical approach to
ensure that the adapter does not conflict with other system resources and
to ensure optimal performance.

The following technical information is a basic outline of the steps
required to install a mach64 graphics adapter.

1) Upon removing the mach64/Rage II card from the box, record in your
User's Guide, the serial number (found on the non-component side of the
card) and the BIOS version (located on a white label on a plug-in
BIOS chip on the component side of the card).

The serial number will be helpful if you require ATI Customer
Support and will also be required to complete the Warranty Form.

2) The following port addresses are used by the VGA controller:

    102, 1CE, 1CF, 2EC-2EF, 3?4, 3?5, 3?8, 3?9, 3?A, 3?B, 3DC
and all aliases. ( ?=B for monochrome, ?=D for color operations)

Check the system hardware for internal modems, FAX cards or LAN cards
which may be using addresses any I/O address used by the mach64/Rage II.

Also ensure that LAN cards, scanner cards and other peripheral adapters
are not using upper memory addresses between C000 and C7FF.

If you have a system containing an on-board graphics controller,
consult your owners manual on how to disable it.

Check and record how much system memory is installed on the system
    motherboard.

Check and record how much system memory is installed on the system
    motherboard.

3) After powering down your system, remove your old graphics adapter (or
disable the on-board graphics controller) and plug-in the mach64/Rage II.

If the system fails to produce text on the monitor, return to Step 2
and re-check the installed hardware for address conflicts.

If no obvious conflicts are present, carefully remove all non-
essential peripheral adapters (scanner, FAX/modem, audio, CD ROM cards,
etc.) to determine the nature of the conflict.

As a last resort, if possible, see if the card works in a different
    system.

4) Once the system has properly booted, your mach64/Rage II is ready to
    run.

Work Groups 3.11 will not function correctly on a mach64 based card.
These SVGA drivers appear to check for specific Super VGA adapter
chip sets and incorrectly identifies the mach64 card as a SVGA
      adapter.

If you wish to use other Windows for Work Groups supplied graphics
drivers, you may select the VGA or Super VGA (800x600, 16 color)
      driver.
